Pass the Mic

What is Pass the Mic?

Pass the Mic is a type of post featured on the Instagram and website. I will contact all of the schools in our region. They will then give me an overview on any event that they've had or are going to have. This is to give other schools inspiration on what they may want to do to encourage school spirit, raise money, and creativity!

How can I be apart of it?

Contact me (leahbreuer2010@icloud.com) and we can collaborate on what you would like featured. By being put on the Instagram it may benefit the amount of people that participate, make it more well known, and give other councils inspiration by showing how great your event was!

A place, time, what activities happened, if any businesses helped, would be very helpful! But honestly provide any information you find fit. This is your event and you can make it completely your own.

What info should I provide?

Before the year started, Abby Kelly Charter School did a Student Council bonding activity at their local bowling

ally. This was a great opportunity to discuss their course of action to take during the school year. As well as goal setting and brainstorming events to come! Everyone had a great time and this seems like a great way to get the year started!

Assabet High School

Assabet's student council runs a class cup. This happens during the week of homecoming and is a great way to encourage school spirit and class participation. Throughout the week, games take place during lunch period. Grades can also win points by participating in spirit week. The grade that wins the most points, receives the class cup.

Haunted Hallways is an annual event at Douglas High School where Student Council decorates adjoining classrooms and leads guests through haunted rooms.  This year’s room themes included Killer Clowns, Zombies, and the Conjuring.  Guides lead guests through the rooms and give quiet hints to our actors for a less scary interaction for our younger visitors.  In addition, we have rooms where Halloween movies play as well as where Halloween Bingo and arts and crafts take place.

Medfield High School

Around the time of Thanksgiving, Medfield held a very successful food drive raising over 2,500 cans! To encourage student participation they did a points system. The winning advisory team would receive breakfast, as well as get to choose what songs get played in passing periods. They also emphasized certain items for certain days that were worth double the points! For their general meetings, a can was required from their members to enter the meetings. This system was also done for the Powerpuff game to maximize amount of food recieved before Thanksgiving.

Nipmuc Regional High School

The half day before Thanksgiving, Nipmuc holds an annual event called FAST (Faculty and Students Together). This unites the school with inflatables, trivia, and

Similarly to Nipmuc, Worcester holds an event called "Santa a Staff". This takes place in and during their school cafeteria lunch service. Staff plus student can pay $1 to put a ticket into a jar with a staff of their choice. Whoever receives the most amount of tickets, has to wear an inflatable Santa costume the day before Christmas Break. All proceeds go to Special Olympics.

minute to win it competitions. As well as outdoor kickball. The day wraps up with a pep rally where seniors make their entrance, cheerleaders and football players share a short routine, and students take part in games like musical chairs, box stacking, tug of war, and balloon popping. In the days leading up to FAST, Nipmuck also runs a Turkey a Teacher fundraiser. This is where students can buy feathers for a teacher’s turkey, and the teacher with the most feathers wears the turkey suit at the pep rally. This event is great for promoting school spirit.

Westborough High School

Westborough's student council holds an annual Homecoming Festival during the homecoming football game. This is done in the lower parking lot and is fully reserved off for food trucks, booths, and games. Some food trucks that attended were Chik-Fil-Ay, Auturos, Uhlmans, and more. Different Westborough clubs also set up booths. There is a raffle booth, a bake sale, face painting, slime, and more. Some of the games included may be a pinko board, minute to win it, and basketball. This is often one of Westborough's best community events.
